Bondi is said to be an original corruption of an Aboriginal word boondi meaning water breaking over rocks. It has been spelt a number of different ways over time, e.g. Boondi, Bundi, Bundye. The current spelling ‘Bondi’ was accepted in 1827. Home of the Gadigal, Bidiagal and Birrabirragal people, whom we acknowledge as the traditional custodians of the area, and country. We recognise and honour their continuing connection to the land, waters and culture where sovereignty was never ceded. We are on stolen lands.
